Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Chocolate with a side of salty is a perfect snack, or at least I think so, and after seeing little packs of chocolate covered pretzels at the supermarket marked up to $5 a bag, I decided to make my own. At the time, I knew I had mini pretzels and semi-sweet bakers chocolate at home, so these bad boys would be free.

Ingredients

  • half a bag of mini pretzels, broken into smaller pieces

  • 4 oz bar of semi sweet chocolate

  • 2 oz of unsweetened chocolate

Directions

  1. Put a piece of wax paper on a baking sheet, set aside.

  2. Melt chocolate, I prefer the double boiler way, but microwaving is good too. For a double boil, put about 2-3 inches of water into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower to a medium-high heat.

  3. Make sure you select a bowl that can get hot, but also fits over the saucepan without falling into the saucepan. You don’t want the boiling water to touch the bowl.

  4. Break up the chocolate into the bowl and place over the saucepan. Stir gently as it begins to melt. The chocolate should get to a smooth consistency as you stir.

  5. Remove the bowl from the saucepan and drop the pretzel pieces into the bowl. Give it a quick stir to make sure all the pieces have been coated with chocolate.

  6. Pour mixture onto baking sheet and spread to an even thin layer.

  7. Place in refrigerator until chocolate has set. Once the chocolate is set, you can break the large piece into many smaller pieces. Keep in a sealed container.

Side Note: I use bars of chocolate for melting, I find they melt easier and give a smoother finish than chocolate chips. I’m also a chocolate lover and love rich dark chocolate, so that is why I add in the 2 oz. of unsweetened chocolate.
